"The US Army has long mooted plans for a robotic revolution and has rolled out autonomous warships as it attempts to stay ahead of competitors such as China and Russia."

Express: John Bassett, who worked for the British spy agency GCHQ for almost two decades, said the US was considering plans to employ thousands of robots by 2025. By Tom Batchelor

'“At some point around 2025 or thereabouts the US army will actually have more combat robots than it will have human soldiers.

'“Many of those combat robots are trucks that can drive themselves, and they will get better at not falling off cliffs.

'“But some of them are rather more exciting than trucks. So we will see in the West combat robots outnumbering human soldiers.”

'Robotic military equipment is already being used by the US Navy and airforce, in the shape of drones and autonomous ships.'
