"Sri Aman's tidal bore is one of the best in the world"

Bernama "Benak Festival is one of the major events in Sarawak's tourism calendar and is celebrated along with water sports, cultural shows and handicraft exhibitions." By Rudy Rukimin Rambli

'A group of top world daredevil surfers will converge Sarawak next month for the annual Tidal Bore Festival or locally known as "Pesta Benak" to test their skills in the crocodile-infested Batang Lupar river.

'The tidal bore usually occurs on the 3rd and 18th days of the Chinese Lunar calendar and during this time, boatmen and youths usually try to ride the gigantic five-foot waves that lash Sri Aman town's waterfront.

'Frenchman Antony Colas, a hardcore tidal surfer and author of the World Stormrider Guide, a guide book on the best new surfing locations worlwide, said he will be coming for the "Pesta Benak" scheduled to be held from July 1 to 4.'
