'A great white shark up to 18 feet long was spotted off Imperial Beach in San Diego on Tuesday morning, prompting lifeguards to post a warning to surfers and swimmers, according to the Associated Press.
'The non-profit Shark Research Committee checked out a photo someone took and determined it was a great white estimated to be up to 18-foot long.
'Here’s more from the report:
'Lifeguard Capt. Robert Stabenow says a group of surfers standing at the end of Beach Avenue saw dolphins scatter and a shark dorsal fin appear at about 9 a.m. Tuesday. The shark was about 150 yards offshore.
'Stabenow says the photograph confirmed it was a credible great white sighting and he hopes surfers stay out of the ocean for a few days.'
